 The Facette Name

How did the name Facette appear?

The name Facette is a derivation of Boniface. Boniface was born illegitimate. Boniface’s children were:

Charles Boniface,
Louis Paquet,
Francois Paquet,
Jean Boniface.

The baptismal certificates of both Charles and Jean reflect their father to be Boniface with no last name. Boniface became Charles’ and Jean’s last name.

The reason for the surname Facette could be coming of course from BoniFAC but the suffix ETTE could be derived from the surname PaquETTE because Boniface was raised by a family called Paquette, as we know (Manon Bérubé, 2004).

Another explanation is the ending ETTE in French means small and for some reason was added to Boniface. Perhaps Boniface was small or perhaps the ETTE reflected that Jean and Charles were Boniface's children. Eventually, the name evolved to Facette. (Manon Bérubé, 2004).
